This informal site has been unusually developed in a former sandstone quarry on the outskirts of the small town. The quarry walls provide a sheltered, peaceful environment and trees soften the slopes. Not a neat, manicured site, the 160 pitches are in small groups on different levels with stone and gravel access roads (some fairly steep). Electricity (6A) is available to all the pitches. There are many secluded corners, mostly for smaller units and tents, and space for children to explore (parents must supervise – some areas, although fenced, could be dangerous). There are roulottes and wooden chalets to rent.

A footpath leads from the site to the town where there are shops and restaurants. The site is well placed for visiting several local places of interest and the friendly, English speaking owner will advise. These include Chantilly, the Asterix Park and the Mer de Sable, a Western theme amusements park, both 20 km. Disneyland is 70 km. It is also possible to visit Paris by train (information at reception). Large units should phone ahead to check availability.

Facilities at Camping Campix

A large building houses reception and two clean, heated sanitary units – one for touring units, the other (open July/Aug) usually reserved for groups. Two accessible suites double as baby rooms. Laundry area. Facilities may be congested at peak times. Motorhome services. Shop (July/Aug). Snack bar (July/Aug). Bread and milk daily. Pizza and other Italian food delivered in the evenings (July/Aug). Play area. Volleyball. Basketball. Bicycle hire. Torches are advised.

Directions to Camping Campix

St Leu-d’Esserent is 11 km. west of Senlis, 5 km. northwest of Chantilly. From north on A1 autoroute take Senlis exit, from Paris the Chantilly exit. Site north of town off D12 towards Cramoisy, and signed in village. Do not use sat nav for final approach.
