Alan Rogers Review of Stordal Camping
Stordal Camping is situated on the shores of Storfjorden where high forested valley sides open to an inlet where the Stordalselva salmon river enters the fjord. It is an ideal location for fishing and boating but also a peaceful base to explore sights like Trollstigen and Muldalfossen, the fourth highest waterfall in the world. Modern sanitary facilities housed in traditional wooden buildings with turf roofs serve 30 touring pitches, 18 with access to electricity points (16A). Passing cruise ships head for Gerainger or Ålesund and both of these popular places are easily accessed by road.
Fishermen can purchase licences from reception to fish the local salmon river. The fishing in the fjord is free and guests can hire special kayaks that can be pedalled and have space for fishing equipment. Boat launching is available directly across from the campsite entrance in a sheltered marina that opens out to the main fjord. The campsite is ideally situated for visits to the Art Deco city of Ålesund, and for trips by road via Valldal, or car/passenger ferry to the head of the famous Gerainger fjord. Boats can be hired to make the trip to a restored mountain farm of Ytste-Skotet.
Facilities at Stordal Camping
Main modern, very clean, heated central unit has coin-operated showers and also houses a laundry. Kitchen with double ring, microwave, dishwashing (free hot water). Accessible Facilities (no shower) in reception building which also has kiosk with ice-cream and drinks. Two play areas, one featuring a galleon, a sandpit and a digger. Trampolines. Boat hire. Salmon river fishing permit (charged). Fjord fishing (free). WiFi over site (charged).
