Alan Rogers Review of Proctors Stead Caravan Park
Proctors Stead is a small, friendly, family run caravan park situated one mile from the sea and surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty. The park itself is a level, sheltered and well-kept. It has 60 pitches with electric hook-up 10 amps for caravans and motorhomes. The nearest village shop and post office is in Embleton about two miles away, where there is also the local garage (fuel sold here too). Craster is famous for its kippers and has a wonderful seasonal seafood restaurant, as well as a pub which overlooks the sea. For those who do not wish to cook, The Cottage Inn is only a short stroll away. The Craster Restaurant (Robsons) is always worth a visit for fish and seafood (seasonal opening Easter- end Sept/Oct) and The Jolly Fisherman in Craster is very popular too. The Cottage Inn and The Jolly Fisherman both allow dogs into the bar areas.
Proctors Stead is ideally situated as a base for your holiday, whether it is for a week or just a couple of days. To the south is situated Alnmouth and to the north you can find Newton, Warkworth, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne (Holy Island) and Berwick upon Tweed; inland you can visit Alwick, Rothbury and Wooler. Due to previous incidents, the site operates a strict no ball or throwing games policy. This includes but is not limited to football, cricket, boules, croquet, catch, frisbees. Swing ball is allowed. The site does not take tents.
Facilities at Proctors Stead Caravan Park
The toilet block has showers, toilets and washbasins with hot water. Power points for shavers and hairdryers. Accessible facilities. Dishwashing area. Laundry area with a coin-operated washing machine and separate tumble dryer. Wi-Fi free. Local information. Book exchange. Quite a good bus service for a rural area. Shop, grocery staples and breakfast basics. Dogs are very welcome; they are to be kept on leads when on site and tethered to your pitch if not inside your caravan or motorhome. No dog walk area, however, there are numerous walks and footpaths close to the site. All dogs should be exercised off-site. TV reception good. Charge for pets and awnings.
