In a remote area of Andalucía, this simple, tiny campsite with just 30 touring pitches has partial views over the salty lakes and marshes of Fuente de Piedra Lagoon, one of the most important wetlands in the Iberian Peninsula, enabling observation of the Greater Flamingo. This spectacle is at its best between January and March. On-site, the smallpitches are on a gently sloping terraced gravel area, and levelling boards may be required. There is a separate grassy area for tents near the pool and bungalows. (cars are not permitted here). There is access on-site to a large municipal swimming pool. Immediately outside the campsite is a restaurant which serves good Spanish food. It is recommended to use bottled water at this site which can be purchased at reception. There are supermarkets in the adjacent village and a petrol station.

The visitor centre, José Antonio Valverde, overlooks the Laguna, and besides flamingos, it is also possible to see many other bird species that frequent the area. For an interesting day out, consider a visit to Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, a gorge carved by the Guadalhorce River (narrowing to 10 metres with a height of 400), followed by the El Torcal De Antequera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which provides an attractive karstic landscape and the strong possibility of seeing Iberian Ibex.

Directions to Espacios Rurales Fuente de Piedra

Site is 20 km. northwest of Antequera. From Antequera take A92 and exit at 132 km. point and follow road to the town. Site is well signed from the town but the signs are small. Junction to site in town is tight and road narrow but manageable.
