Alan Rogers Review of Camping Sonnenberg
This is a small, friendly, family campsite tucked away amongst woodland on the edge of the village of Müden/Örtze, also known as the pearl of the southern heath. The village has a range of shops, restaurants and a bakery (fresh bread and rolls can be delivered daily by arrangement at reception). There are trees all around the campsite, but the main area is open and sunny, with views across the neighbouring fields and heath. The name 'Sonnenberg' translates as 'mountain in the sun', and pleasant views can be had from this slightly elevated position. Further afield, Hanover makes a wonderful day trip with plenty of shopping, museums and historical interest.
Lüneburg Heath is perfect for hiking and cycling, its gentle inclines crisscrossed with waymarked trails. A free guide is available at the campsite reception, giving details of local routes, many even starting directly from the campsite. There are 28 circular hiking trails designed to showcase the best of the local flora and fauna. This campsite has around 100 pitches for caravans and motorhomes, all with electric hook-up points.
