The village of Lyons-la-Forêt, with its Mediaeval covered market and magnificently preserved half-timbered buildings, is classified as one of ’les Plus Beaux Villages de France’. Within walking distance of the village, next to the playing field and public pool, this quiet municipal campsite is a delightful and peaceful spot. The site has one hundred level grass and numbered pitches, separated by hedges with various mature trees providing shade.

There are 53 are for touring units, each with 6A electricity, water and drainage; hardstandings are available. Seven chalets to rent occupy some of the pitches overlooking the clear shallow stream that runs the site's length.

Along the bank is a narrow, beautifully-tended lawn with occasional garden seats and the essential life-buoys. The site is well cared for by a pleasant young couple, the husband ensuring that even the lawns of the privately-owned seasonal caravans and mobile-homes are kept immaculate, The village has a wealth of historical and architectural treasures, a few dating back to the Gallo-Roman period. The austere but impressive brick-built Hotel de Ville was constructed in the 18th Century as were Les Halles, the open-air but covered market place that is still at the heart of village life today. Among other buildings of note are two 17th Century Convents and a group of three stone-built water-mills from the same period. The Church of Saint Denis is on the edge of the village having been built in the 12th Century on the site of an ancient pagan place of worship.

Central toilet block includes controllable showers and washbasins in cubicles; accessible facilities are on the ladies’ side and are a basic shower room and separate washbasin and WC; they are a bit cramped. Washing machine and dryer. A second block near reception opens in the high season. Motorhome services. The reception sells some basic food and drinks. TV/games room also used by campers: table and chairs plus free use of fridge, freezer and microwave. Small play areas. Pétanque. A field for games. Bicycle hire. Seven chalets to rent. Wifi throughout (charged).

Directions to Camping Municipal Saint Paul

Lyons-la-Forêt is 35 km. east of Rouen via N31 Beauvais road. Turn south at La Feuillie on D921/D321 to Lyons-la-Forêt. Site is on left on bend at foot of hill behind a playing field.
