Alan Rogers Review of Camping Mombarone
This is a small, friendly, all-year site alongside the SS26 road and close to the motorway from the Mont Blanc tunnel and the Saint Bernard Pass, providing a useful stop if entering or leaving Italy via these routes. It has 130 pitches, with space for about 50 touring units on the grass areas between the permanent units. The Peretto family take pride in looking after their guests and English is spoken. The site has a small bar and a simple, inexpensive restaurant is 50 metres away. The site is thoughtfully laid out in a valley with attractive plants, shrubs and trees for shade and is surrounded by high mountains and wooded hills, with vines bedecking the eastern slopes.
If you are here in October help the family pick their own grapes, make the wine (in the Nebbiolo style) and share the fun; the wine is sold at the bar – it is good! Children can paddle in the shallow river and catch tiddlers on the northern boundary. This is an ideal base for climbers as the mountains in this area are extremely popular. The many famous valleys including Valle di Champorcher and Valle di Gressony are within easy driving distance, as is the Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso. Being close to main roads, there is inevitably some traffic noise.
