Alan Rogers Review of Camping l’Orée des Cévennes
L’Orée des Cévennes can be found on the outskirts of Saint Jean-de-Valériscle, an attractive medieval village in the foothills of the Cévennes National Park, and an ideal location from which to explore the many attractions the region has to offer. It is a small, family run campsite with just 22 pitches, half of which are for tourers. It is set in a well shaded, leafy glade by the River Auzonnet. The pitches are enclosed by hedges and shrubs to provide privacy and shade, and access is difficult for all but the smallest of outfits. On-site amenities include a large swimming pool, which is open during July and August. The pool is municipal, but free of charge to campers.
This site is primarily about peace and quiet, therefore evening entertainment is limited to just one activity per week. There are, however, occasional events organised during the day, including table tennis competitions. There is information on hiking trails in the spectacular surrounding countryside, and bicycle hire is also available. The snack bar/restaurant has a terrace beside the swimming pool, and a grassy area close to the river.

One toilet block has warm showers and open style washbasins. Washing machine. Shop. Restaurant/snack bar. Takeaway. Swimming pool. Basic play area. Tennis. Volleyball. Sports field. Activity and entertainment programme. Direct river access. Fishing. Mobile homes to rent. Dogs are not accepted.
Directions to Camping l’Orée des Cévennes
Site is on the D59 between les Mages and l’Affenadou. Approaching from the north (from St Ambroix) take D904 towards Alès. At les Mages roundabout, turn right onto D59, towards St Jean-de-Valériscle. Do not enter village, but continue on the main road. After slight descent, turn left across bridge following campsite signs.
