The Parc des Oiseaux is one of Europe’s largest and most popular ornithological parks and can be found at Villars-les-Dombes, northeast of Lyon. The 190 pitches here are large and grassy, and are mostly supplied with electricity (6A). A range of wooden chalets and specially made tents are available for rent. On-site amenities include a swimming pool and a small bar/restaurant. The River Chalaronne runs alongside the site and fishing is popular. A children’s activity programme is run in high season, focusing on nature and the countryside.

A great diversity of birds from around the world are on display at the nearby park, and the emphasis there is very firmly on replicating the birds’ natural habitat and conservation. The park has won several major awards for this reason. Villars-les-Dombes lies at the heart of the Dombes, a region notable for its hundreds of lakes which are ideally suited for fish rearing and water fowl.

Directions to Camping le Nid du Parc

From A46, northeast of Lyons take exit 3 signed Bourg-en-Bresse. Take N83 northeast to Villars-les-Dombes, 20 km. On entering town turn right to site (D904) which is well signed.
