Alan Rogers Review of Camping du Vivier aux Carpes
Vivier aux Carpes is a small, quiet site close to the A26, two hours from Calais, so it is an ideal overnight stop on your journey into Europe or an afternoon departure from Calais. This is also a great sport to extend your stay if you wish to relax and explore Picardy. Access to this site is easy as it is situated in the village with local shops and facilities. This neat, purpose-designed site is imaginatively set around an attractive 7ha fishing lake ideal for avid anglers.
The 67 well-spaced pitches are at least 100 sq.m, mainly on flat grass with dividing hedges. The 40 touring pitches all have 10A electricity, and there are particular pitches on gravel for motorhomes. The facilities on-site include a bar and restaurant in high season with outdoor table’s in a courtyard area next to a modern heated covered outdoor swimming pool. The site also offers excellent facilities, including a modern laundry/ironing room; a large indoor games room with various activities is above the laundry room.
The site also offers a communal fridge/freezer, microwave & kettle for general use. Enthusiastic owners speak excellent English and are keen to welcome British visitors.
This site is ideal for fishing enthusiasts and couples seeking a quiet holiday. Facilities for children are excellent, but there are no organised activities, and there is a lot of open water to tempt young children. The outlook from pitches on the largest of the ponds is most attractive, with small animals (sheep and goats) in a field on the other side, linked to the camping field by a small footbridge. There is also abundant wildlife. The cathedral city of Saint Quentin is within easy reach and has a wealth of history and architecture to offer as well as good shops, bars and restaurants. Other possible destinations for days out could include the cathedral cities of Reims, Amiens and Laon; Disneyland is just over an hour away, Compiegne and the WW1 battlefields are near, and Paris is easily reached by train (1 hour 15 minutes from Saint Quentin).
