Camping De Wigwam is on the opposite site of the road from the extensive Gaasterland woodlands of southern Friesland, and only three kilometres to the shore of the IJsselmeer and its beaches. This is a fairly open site with 200 pitches (about half for tourers) divided into grass areas by hedges, each taking between four and 20 units and all with electricity (up to 16A). Twenty also have water and drainage. Numbered pitches are separated to the back by high hedges, which provide some shade. A café behind reception offers simple meals and takeaway. In high season, plays and bicycle tours are organised and there is a small paddling pool for toddlers.

Being close to the woods and the IJsselmeer and its beaches, makes the site a good base for walking and cycling, but also for watersports and the beach. The Sybrandy entertainment park in Rijs is nearby as is Sloten, the smallest of the 11 towns that participate in the Friesian Elfstedentocht ice-skating race. You could also visit the old fishing towns of Stavoren and Hindeloopen.

Two toilet blocks (one new), at reception and in the centre of the site, have toilets, washbasins (open style and in cabins) and controllable, hot showers (coin operated). Family showers. Baby room. Laundry. Fresh bread to order. Terrace café for snacks and drinks. Playing field. Playground with bouncy cushion. Sailing. Canoe hire. Bicycle hire. WiFi (charged).

Directions to Camping De Wigwam

From the A6, take exit 17 for Lemmer and continue west on N359 road. Turn south towards Sondel, then Nijemirdum and Oudemirdum. In Oudemirdum, follow site signs.
