This is a friendly, family run site within 400 m. of the historic city of Sluis on the Belgian border, yet bounded by mature trees, open countryside and a small lake. Laid out in groups divided by hedges and small trees, there are 250 pitches including about 100 for touring units and six cabins. Public transport operates in July and August between Breskens, Sluis and Knokke, which is free to guests and can take you to the coast. The bus stop is 100 m. away and buses run every hour.

Sluis has fine restaurants and shops which are open seven days a week. A nearby nature reserve is famous for birds (including stork). Once on a waterway between the coast and Brugge, when it was an important trading centre, Sluis is an historic city. Part of the old waterway can be explored by pedalo, and there are numerous purpose-built cycleways safely separated from traffic. Outside the campsite entrance is a sports complex and an area containing a variety of animals (deer, sheep, peacocks and chickens) that will appeal to young and old alike.

One large sanitary building provides modern showers, washbasins with cold water, two private cabins, Accessible facilities. All hot water is charged. Launderette (coins). Recreation room (with toys). Bar and restaurant with simple menu. Takeaway. Playground and sports field. Boules. Air hockey. Pool table. Fishing (licence from reception). Children’s art and craft sessions (Mon, Wed, Fri). WiFi (charged).

Directions to Camping De Meidoorn

From the north take A58 (Bergen op Zoom-Middelburg/Vlissingen) and take exit for Terneuzen and Westerscheldetunnel. At roundabout turn right to Breskens, Oostburg and Cadzand. Entering Sluis from N58 turn right and first right again. From Calais, Dunkerque, Ostend or Brugge take N374 to Sluis.
