Alan Rogers Review of Camping de Fondespierre
Interesting sites can be hard to find in this area, particularly so close to Montpellier. Camping du Fondespierre does offer something a little different to the big, run of the mill holiday sites around here. Its situation in a quiet location a few miles northeast of Montpellier provides a relaxing spot to enjoy the pretty surroundings of the uneven terrain of the ‘garrigue’, but with plenty of shade from the wild olive trees, gnarled evergreen oaks and tall pines. There are only 103 grass, shaded pitches on stony ground, with terracing where needed. Sixty-one are used for touring units, all with 10/16A electricity, and there are 20 mobile homes and a few bungalow tents to rent. The site is open all year round.
Muriel and Denis work hard to ensure a relaxed atmosphere, with a simple bar overlooking the two pools. There are scooters and pedal cars for the play area and a VTT circuit at the top of the site. Mountain bikes can be hired, and a tennis court is opposite the site. Montpellier, with its old university, is worth exploring. Canoeing and kayaking are possible nearby, and walks or VTT routes from the site in the surrounding countryside, or ‘garrigue’ as it is known. It is possible to walk into the village, around 1 km. away.
Facilities at Camping de Fondespierre
One large, fully equipped toilet block can be part heated in winter. An extra block is at the top of the site. Accessible facilities, Washing machine and dryer. Motorhome services. Bar with snacks according to demand. Some emergency supplies in bar. Two swimming pools one with reverse current. Outdoor fitness equipment. Play area. Football field. Trampoline. Bicycle hire. WiFi over site (charged).
Directions to Camping de Fondespierre
From the A9 take exit 28 (Vendargues) towards Castries via the RN110. Pass through village following signs Domaine de Fondespierre. Turn left 800 m. after the village, then second left and right at cross to site.
