Alan Rogers Review of Waterclose Meadows Campsite
Waterclose Meadows Campsite is owned by The National Trust. Situated on the banks of the Great Ouse with spectacular views across the river to the Trust’s Houghton Mill, the last working watermill on this river. Milling demonstrations are held every Sunday during the season and visitors can purchase the flour.
The site is situated on the fringe of the highly picturesque village of Houghton, with a wealth of timbered and thatched-roof cottages, pubs and shops, and the whole surrounding area is a paradise for walkers, bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts. There is an abundance of footpaths and bridleways for walkers, horse riders and cyclists along and across the proliferation of waterways. The site has 65 grass pitches with electric hook-up points. There also fully equipped camping pods available to rent.
Situated right next to the twin villages of Houghton and Wyton, Waterclose Meadows is the perfect location to explore the local area. There are several walks and cycle ways connecting to the nearby villages of the Hemingfords. A little further afield, you can visit some other National Trust properties and places including Anglesey Abbey, Wicken Fen Nature Reserve and Wimpole Hall Estate.
