Alan Rogers Review of Salisbury Camping & Caravanning Club Site
Salisbury Camping & Caravanning Club site, at Hudson’s Fields (great for kite flying and walking), enjoys fantastic views over the hill fort of Old Sarum, which includes the remains of a prehistoric fortress, a Norman palace, a castle and a cathedral. Stay here, and you are well situated to visit some of Wiltshire’s best-known attractions. Described as the city in the countryside, Salisbury is just a mile-and-a-half riverside walk away. Justly famous for its cathedral, home to the famous Magna Carta, this bustling market town also boasts attractive timbered buildings, a thriving market, popular Salisbury racecourse, museums and some of England’s finest historic houses. The site has 150 grass or hardstanding pitches (some seasonal). Most with an electric hook-up point.
Non-members are welcome and may join on-site. Please speak to site staff for details and to check pitch availability before arrival.
The area is also well-known for the ancient monument at Stonehenge. Avebury, 19 miles to the north, is another less crowded prehistoric site. Old Wardour Castle is also worth a visit. Take a tour of Wilton House west of Salisbury, set in eight hectares of grounds. Longleat, Beaulieu and the National Motor Museum and popular theme park Paultons are all great family days out from the site.
