Alan Rogers Review of Petruth Paddocks
Petruth Paddocks is near Cheddar, Somerset. The site has stunning views overlooking the Mendip Hills in one direction and towards the Somerset Levels in the other. Take the Strawberry Line by foot or bike for half an hour from the site gate to arrive at Cheddar Gorge or continue on and take the old railway line path to Yatton, where trains hauled strawberries from the slopes of Cheddar to the early morning markets in east London over half a century ago. The site has 207 pitches of which 200 are for touring units and there are 4 shepherds huts and 3 gypsy caravans available for hire. There is lots of open space for children to run about in, get to know each other and make new friends.
The site operates a strict recycling policy, so you will be asked to bring five rubbish sacks and staff will explain their system when you arrive. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, especially if they have well-behaved owners. Food and coffee are served throughout the day on weekends, every day throughout the school holidays. Open fires are encouraged, fire drums, kindling, logs and lighters can be delivered to your pitch every evening for a small charge. Please don’t take your own wood. The toilet block has modern individual toilet and shower cubicles with piping hot high-pressure showers, toilets and washing-up sinks.
The village of Cheddar linked by Cheddar Gorge to the Mendip Hills is an ideal centre for a holiday. Not only are there many things to do and see in the surrounding area but also many things of interest both in the village and nearby. The famous Cheddar car Boot is held every Sunday just 5 minutes’ walk away on the same site as Cheddar Ales Brewery and Cheddar Chocolate factory.

Directions to Petruth Paddocks
From the M5 take exit 22 (not 21 and avoid a stressful end to your journey). Following brown tourist signs, pick up the A371 heading for Cheddar/Wells. Staying on the A371, ignore signs for the Gorge and drive through the centre of Cheddar village. You will pass Tesco on your right and the Bath Arms on your left. Continue on this road passing St Andrew's Church followed by Cheddar Football Club on your right. After a further 250 yards, take a right turn (by the Woodpecker Services sign) off the A371 into Labourham Way. Take an immediate left, slow to walking pace and you will see the site sign in front of you. Take a sharp left through the gateway to the car park.
