This small site is in the São Jacinto Nature Reserve, at the southern end of a peninsula between the Atlantic and the Barrinha, with views to the mountains beyond. The postal address is Aveiro, although the town, known as Portugal’s Venice, is across a wide stretch of water and reachable by ferry. This site has 250 places on unmarked pitches, but most have trees to provide natural limits and shade. Swimming and fishing are both possible in the adjacent estuary or the sea, a 20 minute walk from a gate at the rear. São Jacinto is very quiet, with a few cafés and shops.

Terreira, which you pass through on your way to the site, has a little more to offer in the way of smarter shops and restaurants. In front of the site is a private jetty for boats and the manager will organise hire of the decorative Moliceiros, boats used in days gone by to harvest seaweed for the land. Nothing much seems to happen here, though there is always the ferry (pedestrian or vehicle) from the village across to Aveiro where you can stroll through the streets of the old town and visit its fish market, or take a trip along the canals in a motorised Moliceiro.

Facilities at Orbitur Camping São Jacinto

Two toilet blocks, very clean when inspected, are basic but provide hot water to showers and open-style washbasins. Accessible facilities, Washing machine and ironing board. Motorhome services. Small shop and very basic bar/snack bar. Attractive playground. Five unusual two-storey bungalows and six mobile homes to rent.

Directions to Orbitur Camping São Jacinto

São Jacinto is 66 km. due south of Porto. From north on A29 leave at exit 5 (Ovar Norte), head west and then N327 to Ovar, Torreira and São Jacinto. From south on A29 leave at exit 3 (Avanca) head west and then turn south on N109. Turn west at Estarreja onto N109-5, cross bridge over river and head south on N327 to Torreira and the site on the right.
