A small, peaceful seaside site set in pinewoods, although these have sadly been depleted by a recent storm, Camping Mira is situated to the south of Aveiro and Vagos, in a quieter and less crowded area. It fronts onto an extensive lake at the head of the Ria Barrinha. The entrance has now been moved to the rear of the site from where a track leads directly to the dunes and a wide quiet beach. The site has around 225 pitches on sandy soil, including some 40 chalets to rent. The pitches are not marked but have trees creating natural divisions. Electrical connections (6A) are available throughout.

The lake provides opportunities for lighthearted boating and for various water sports including sailing. A small lagoon, where fishing is possible, is even closer to the site. The approach across country from the south takes you through extensive woodlands, part of the National Forest, where walkers and cyclists can get plenty of exercise. To the north is the attractive town of Aveiro, known as Portugal’s Venice and close by is delightful little Costa Nova with its traditional, brightly-painted houses and an amazing fish market. To the south-east is the bustling university town of Coimbra with good shopping, interesting architecture and museums and, it is said, a thriving nightlife.

Facilities at Orbitur Camping Mira

Two traditional toilet blocks are clean but in need of refurbishment; they provide free hot showers and open-style washbasins, some with hot water. Washing machines and dryer. Accessible Facilities, Motorhome services. Gas supplies. Shop, bar, restaurant and takeaway are franchised but should be open all season. TV room. Play area. WiFi throughout (free). Chalets to rent.

Directions to Orbitur Camping Mira

Site is 110 km south of Porto. From A17 coastal motorway at exit 12, take the N109 south towards Figueira da Foz. At Mira turn northeast on N334 and follow signs west to Praia de Mira. Site is south of village at the southern end of the lake, on the right.
