Alan Rogers Review of Longnor Wood Holiday Park
A secluded, rural location, deep in the heart of the Peak District, Longnor Wood is an adult only park (over 18 yrs) and an ideal environment for a relaxing break from the outside world. It is a good base for walking, red deer and birdwatching (barn owls) and serious cycling – the area is very hilly. There are just 14 touring pitches plus an additional 13 pitches for tents. The pitches are level, some on small terraces, all with 10A electricity hook-ups on half hardstanding, half grass. Three are multi-services (electricity, water, waste water and TV connections). Sharing the site are 33 seasonal pitches and nine caravan holiday homes to rent.
The tenting area is at the top of the site, with wonderful views over the National Park, but you may have a problem with tent pegs as the topsoil can be rather thin in places. There is a well appointed late arrivals area at the entrance. The approach road is narrow with passing places. Reception has a brochure with the history of the old market town of Longnor (where Peak Practice was filmed), which includes several places worth visiting.
