Alan Rogers Review of La Valette Campsite
La Valette is one of just two options for simple camping on this wonderful island. Bring your own tent (baggage will be transported for you to and from the harbour) or rent a ready erected tent or one of four smart camping pods. With stunning sea views across to Alderney and France, the large open field slopes in places, although it should always be possible to find a level spot and there is some shelter from hedges if preferred.
There are no electrical hook-ups and the only amenity is a purpose-built toilet block. One of the joys of this car-free island is that children can experience a wonderful freedom and everyone can explore the island on foot or by bike. Mrs Adams, the owner, provides a friendly welcome and can provide a fascinating insight into Sark and the history of her beautiful granite farmhouse.
La Valette is the only Sark ‘tenement’ never to have been sold and, since 1565, has been passed down through the family. The small shops, pubs and restaurants of the island are an easy stroll. Walking amongst the flora and fauna of the island is a delight or you could rent a bike. Sandy coves are accessible down cliff paths. The site overlooks Grève de la Ville Bay which is ideal for a refreshing morning swim when the sun hits the beach on this side of the island. Above all, this car-free island provides ample opportunities to totally relax and recharge your batteries.

Directions to La Valette Campsite
Take the small ferry from Guernsey (www.sarkshippingcompany.com). On arrival catch the tractor-drawn ‘bus’ up Harbour Hill (you can walk but it is a ten minute, steep hike). Once at the top take road leading off right and follow the lane and signs to the farmhouse.
