This large site occupies a hillside position, sloping down to a cove with a 500 metre beach of fine sand – a special feature is an attractive grotto at the eastern end. Hard access roads lead to 800 terraced, sand/grass pitches (5A electricity), some with real shade. Some pitches are on the beach fringes (no extra charge) and there is a separate area for campers with animals. The infrastructure was beginning to look a little tired when we visited. Cars have to be parked away from the pitches in high season.

Some flowerbeds provide a garden atmosphere and the site is surrounded by tree clad mountains and is generally quiet. The site is popular with German campers (tannoy announcements and most notices in German only) although English is spoken. If you are looking for a site with fine sand on the beach and the chance to explore the Gargano National Park, then San Nicola may be for you.

Facilities at Centro Turistico San Nicola

Four toilet blocks of variable standards with British and squat style toilets, some with hot water in the washbasins and hot showers. Accessible facilities, One in the beach area had queues for showers when we visited (late June). Laundry facilities. Supermarket. Beach bar and snacks. Large bar/restaurant with terraces and pizzeria. Games room. Multisports area. Tennis. Watersports. Playground. Organised activities and entertainment for children (July/Aug). ATM. Dogs are not accepted in high season.

Directions to Centro Turistico San Nicola

Leave autostrada A14 at exit for Poggio Imperiale, and SS693 towards Peschici and Vieste. It is a winding coast road to Peschici. Follow signs to San Nicola and follow campsite signs. Take care as there are two campsites very close to each other with virtually the same name. You want the second on the approach. The site is 1.5 hours drive from the motorway.
