O Tamanco is a peaceful countryside site, with a homely almost farmstead atmosphere; you will have chickens and geese wandering around and there is a farmyard including goats and pot-bellied pigs. The enthusiastic Dutch owners, Irene and Hans, are sure to give you a warm welcome at this delightful little site.

The 65 good sized pitches are separated by cordons of all manner of fruit trees, ornamental trees and flowering shrubs, some on level grassy ground, others tucked away in glades. There is 6/10A electricity to most pitches, although long leads may be needed. Five pitches are suitable for large motorhomes. There is some road noise on pitches at the front of the site.

The village of Outeiro do Louriçal is within walking distance and has a mini-market and a bar, whilst a short drive (or cycle) takes you to Louriçal which has an interesting Sunday market and a convent whose nuns have taken vows of silence, but who will sell you religious amulets without verbal communication. Pay a visit to the lively town of Coimbra and nearby Roman Conimbriga and see their architectural sites; or travel south to the shrine and place of pilgrimage at Fátima. You can fish and swim in a nearby lake and the a number of beaches are a short drive away.

Facilities at Campismo O Tamanco

The single toilet block provides very clean and generously sized facilities including controllable showers, washbasins in cabins. Hot water to all basins and most sinks. Accessible Suite can also be used for families. As facilities are limited they may be busy in peak periods. Washing machine and dryer. Bar with TV. Restaurant (set Portuguese meals three times weekly in low season, full menu in July/Aug). Roofed patio with fireplace. Internet access. Swimming pool. Wooden chalets and yurts for hire.

Outeiro do Louriçal is 170 km. north of Lisbon. From the A8/A17 (Lisboa-Porto) motorway, take exit 6 for Pombal/Carrico. Take exit for Outeiro onto N342 and O Tamanco is immediately on the left.
