Alan Rogers Review of Camping Wolfgangsee Birkenstrand
Camping Wolfgangsee Birkenstrand has spectacular views over the Wolfgangsee and the distant mountains. This friendly, family-run site offers a relaxing holiday in an ‘away from it all’ location in Salzburg. With direct access to the crystal clear waters of the lake, the opportunities for watersports are numerous - snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing and water-skiing; courses are also available. There are multiple cycling routes from the site which range from flat and easy to more challenging.
There are 110 good sized pitches (90-110 sq.m), all with 12A electricity (Europlug) and some are fully serviced. They are marked, low hedges divide many, and there is occasional shade from small trees. There are several interesting resort towns along the lake, including St. Wolfgang with its historic rack railway dating back to 1893. There is a restaurant within walking distance of the campsite offering regional specialities.
The sophisticated city of Salzburg, renowned for its art and culture, is less than one hour’s drive from Birkenstrand (park and ride recommended). Festivals are held throughout the year, and there is a wide choice of sights, including Mozart’s birthplace and home, the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the museum of modern art, while the zoo and the toy museum will appeal to younger visitors.
