Alan Rogers Review of Camping Orta
Lake Orta is a delightful, less-visited small lake just west of Lake Maggiore. The site is on a considerable slope and most of the 80 touring pitches (all with 6A electricity) are on the top grass terrace with spectacular views across the lake to the mountains beyond. There are some superb lakeside pitches across the main road (linked by a pedestrian underpass) although there is some traffic noise here.
Amenities include a large game and entertainment room and a traditional Italian bar and restaurant serving good value family meals. Some English is spoken by the Guarnori family, who take pride in maintaining their uncomplicated site to a high standard. Book ahead to enjoy the lakeside pitches. If you are anxious about towing a large caravan to the top terraces, the owner will help out with his tractor.
Facilities at Camping Orta
Four modern sanitary blocks are clean and well maintained providing mainly British style toilets, coin operated showers and an excellent accessible unit. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Good quality shop, bar and restaurant with basic menu serving good value Italian family meals (also takeaway, all season). Playground. Large games/TV room. WiFi in reception/bar area (charged). Fishing. Bicycle hire. Boat launching. Lake swimming and watersports.
Directions to Camping Orta
Lake Orta is 85 km. northwest of Milan, just west of Lake Maggiore. Site is on the SR229 between Borgomanero and Omega, 600 m. north of the turn to Orta San Giulio. Parking area for arrivals is on lake side of the road, with reception and main entrance on the opposite side.
