Alan Rogers Review of Camping Lo Stambecco
Lo Stambecco (the Alpine ibex) is tucked away deep in the Gran Paradiso National Park. After an enthralling scenic mountain drive, you will reach this small site with breathtaking views of the mountains and glaciers. The grass pitches are informally arranged on slopes and terraces (levelling aids are useful) and all have great views. Electricity is available (3A Europlug; long leads useful). Clean crisp air, beautiful views, the rushing clear mountain stream and the delightfully informal atmosphere make this a destination site. You decide whether to hike, bike, raft or simply relax and let it all soak in.
The Gran Paradiso National Park with its flora and fauna is a must for exploration, and the scenery alone makes the journey worthwhile. The very friendly English-speaking owner will gladly assist in arranging all manner of Alpine and adventure activities. Waking up to the sound of birdsong, and watching the sunrise and set on the snow-clad mountain peaks are pleasures for all at this site. Walks in the upper part of the site may be rewarded by spotting the deer-like camoscio or even the Alpine ibex. The village has traditional bars and restaurants, and the little church is a delight.

The two toilet blocks are mature but clean. WCs are a mixture of British and squat style. Baby baths to borrow. Washing machine. Motorhome services. Bar and lounge with games and library. Torches useful. WiFi (free).
Directions to Camping Lo Stambecco
Site is south of Aosta. From A5/E25 take Cogne exit south. (From the SS26, take the SR47). A long scenic drive will take you to the Cogne municipality. In town look for the right turn sign to Valnontey where site is clearly signed on the left.
