A simple country site perched high in the mountains of Las Alpujarras, on the south side of the Sierra Nevada, El Balcon de Pitres has its own rustic charm. Hundreds of trees planted around the site provide shade. There are stunning views from some of the 175 level, grassy pitches (large units may find pitch access difficult). The garden is kept green by spring waters which you can hear and sometimes see, tinkling away in places. The Lopez family have built this site from barren mountain top to cool oasis in the mountains in just fifteen years.

It is a wonderful relaxing place to cool down, away from the heat of the coast. On Saturday evenings in summer there is a variety of live entertainment in the bar, which is far enough away from the pitches not to disturb sleeping campers. Local visitors often add to the ‘hot August night’ ambience. The pool is very popular in summer with locals as well as campers. There are wonderful walks and lots of attractions including mountaineering sports such as canyoning, parascending, and trekking in the area, which is famous for its mineral water.

Two toilet blocks provide adequate accessible facilities (but the steeply sloping site is unsuitable for visitors with mobility problems). Bar/snack bar (with TV and pool table). Swimming pools (charged: € 2.40 adult, € 1.50 child). Barbecues are not permitted. Torches useful. WiFi.

Directions to Camping El Balcon de Pitres

Site is 30 km. northeast of Motril. Heading south on A44 (E902) exit 164 (Lanjaron) onto E348 towards Orgiva. Fork left at sign (A4132) Pampaneira 8 km. Continue to Pitres (7 km). Site signed (steep and winding roads).
