Camping in Sicily and Sardinia

loading...

Sicily is a rugged and attractive island on the southern tip of Italy. It is separated from the mainland region of Calabria by the 5 km Straits of Messina and has a long history of foreign domination. The Greeks, the Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spanish; even Napoleon went here for a while. The result is a mixed and fascinating culture and every little city on this huge island has a unique feel. With dramatic, rolling uplands covered with grassland, and a beautiful coastline boasting isolated coves, long sandy beaches and hidden caves. Sardinia offers more than just sunshine and clear waters: littered around the island are thousands of prehistoric remains. The busy port of Cagliari is the island’s capital. Main attractions include the city walls, archaeology museum and cathedral plus an impressive Roman amphitheatre. Boat and car trips can also be made to Neptune’s Grotto, a spectacular, deep marine cave, around the point of Capo Caccia.
