Alan Rogers Review
York Rowntree Park Caravan and Motorhome Club site is a modern site with 98 hardstanding pitches separated by thick beech hedges. All pitches are of a good size; however, some are not suitable for awnings. A motorhome service point, two chemical disposal points and three service points ensure good provision. Reception is modern and has some essential items for sale. The site makes a great place to stay when visiting York, the Jorvik centre, the chocolate museum, and the castle and shops. A small area for tents is available for backpackers & cyclists. York itself has so much to see and do that you'll find the time can slip by all too easily. Using a pedestrian gate at the back of the site leads you to a parade of local shops, including a fantastic fish and chip shop with cafe, Indian and Thai restaurants and numerous takeaways as well as a selection of Cafe's, food and convenience shops.
This city centre site is located beside the River Ouse and is within 10 minutes walk of the historic City centre. The site is top-rated, so booking in advance is essential to avoid disappointment. Arrival must be before 20:00 as there is no late arrival parking, a barrier controls access. Visitors should note that some parts of the site could be subject to flooding, and visitors are advised to take advice from the wardens. Why not walk down Whip-ma-whop-ma-gate: a street of historical interest which is the shortest street in York with the longest name. You could also call in at the many real ale pubs, The York Dungeons, Jorvik Viking Centre and take a time-car, which will transport you back to the city's distant past. Should you have any budding archaeologists in the family, visit the ARC at St Saviours Church and train enthusiasts of all ages won't want to miss the award-winning National Railway Museum.
N.B. Non-members may join on site and make a substantial saving on pitch fees, please speak to site staff for more details and to check pitch availability before arrival.

Some care must be taken when locating this site, as it is on the opposite bank of the Ouse from the city centre. Best accessed from the outer ring road using the A1079. If you’re on the inner ring road, you need to be going clockwise. After the city wall, cross Skeldergate Bridge (A1036) and then bear left. Immediately turn left at the Swan Inn and then right at the T Junction. The site is then 200 yards on the right. If you are on the ring road and the Castle is on your left, you cannot turn right onto the bridge. So you'll need to go around the one-way system and back to the bridge.
