Alan Rogers Review

This city centre site is located beside the River Ouse and is within 10 minutes walk of the historic City centre. A flat site, it provides 99 pitches, all of which have electricity and TV. The site is top-rated, so booking in advance is essential to avoid disappointment. Arrival must be before 20:00 as there is no late arrival parking, a barrier controls access. The site is owned by the Caravan & Motorhome Club and is of a very high standard. Visitors should note that some parts of the site could be subject to flooding, and visitors are advised to take advice from the wardens.

A modern site with 99 hardstanding pitches separated by thick beech hedges. All pitches are of a good size; however, some are not suitable for awnings. A motorhome service point, two chemical disposal points and three service points ensure good provision.  Reception is modern and has some essential items for sale. The site makes a great place to stay when visiting York, the Jorvik centre, the chocolate museum, and the castle and shops. A small area for tents is available for backpackers & cyclists.

The new combined reception and sanitary block is excellent with good showers, WCs, washing facilities in cubicles, and disabled facilities. Small shop for essentials. Rear access gate gives easy access to local shops. City centre 10 minutes walk.

Some care must be taken when locating this site, as it is on the opposite bank of the Ouse from the city centre. Best accessed from the outer ring road using the A1079. If you’re on the inner ring road, you need to be going clockwise. After the city wall, cross Skeldergate Bridge (A1036) and then bear left. Immediately turn left at the Swan Inn and then right at the T Junction. The site is then 200 yards on the right. If you are on the ring road and the Castle is on your left, you cannot turn right onto the bridge. So you'll need to go around the one-way system and back to the bridge.
