Camping la Côte Sauvage is a member of the Village Center Group, located on the Ile de Ré, close to the pretty village of Saint Clement-des-Baleines. There are 274 pitches here (80–100 sq.m), as well as a number of fully equipped tents which are available to rent. Unusually, the site also offers ten traditional yurts which have been attractively prepared in traditional style. Activities here are designed to take advantage of the site’s natural setting and include ornithology and twilight nature trails. In high season, there is a mobile snack bar which also serves ice creams. Shops, bars and restaurants can be found within walking distance.
The site is close to the western tip of the island and to its well known lighthouse, the Phare des Baleines. It is possible to climb the 257 steps of the lighthouse, and from the top there are superb views across the Conche des Baleines, and to the Ile d’Oléron, to the south. Access to the beach is via a footpath from the site. The Ile de Ré is renowned for its excellent cycle tracks and the site’s friendly managers will be pleased to recommend routes.
