Alan Rogers Review
Brixham has evolved as two distinct areas – the fishing village by the harbour (Fishtown) and a farming community about a mile inland at Saint Mary’s (Cowtown). Nowadays the two parts run together and Upton Manor is to be found high above the town, ten minutes walk from Saint Mary’s beach. Situated on partly sloping meadow land, the site provides 70 fairly level, grass touring pitches with electricity (22 of these are fully serviced) and three sanitary blocks. The well drained pitches are marked by open fencing or white lines. Brixham town centre is just over a mile from the campsite, but the nearest shop is within a half mile and pubs, restaurants and takeaways are within easy walking distance. Only families and couples are welcomed.
Brixham has been a port for over 900 years and retains a charm and character, with narrow alleyways and long flights of steps threading their way through the old fishermen’s cottages. Today it is still Britain’s premier fishing port with 21st-century facilities and a 500-berth marina. The town is part of the Borough of Torquay which comprises three main towns: Torquay to the north, Paignton in the centre and Brixham to the south, all overlooking the beautiful four mile wide Tor Bay. The area is perhaps better known as the English Riviera. There are numerous sandy or pebbled beaches and the nearest, Saint Mary’s Bay, is down a narrow, and in parts steep, path which begins near the site.
Three well equipped toilet blocks include hot showers. Family room. Baby changing area. Facilities for disabled visitors. Washing machine. Calor and Camping Gaz supplies. Freezer pack service. Regular half hourly bus service finishing at 17.30.

On approaching Brixham keep right at filter lights. It is a somewhat tortuous route but well signed across the suburbs. There are very comprehensive directions on the site’s website. Site on left, park in waiting area and call at farmhouse opposite.
