Alan Rogers Review
Within easy reach of Keswick and Derwentwater and with impressive views of the surrounding fells, Troutbeck is open to members and non-members alike and is a great base from which to explore the northern Lakes. There are 54 pitches, 36 on hardstanding, the remainder on grass. Most have 16A electricity connections and four pitches have TV hook-ups. A shallow river runs close to the touring area (steep drop). Blencathra and Sharp Edge are both within easy reach of the campsite. The Coast2Coast cycle way passes by the campsite. Another popular mountain bike route is the Old Coach Road from which in places there are splendid views of Blencathra and Skiddaw.
The popular market town of Keswick is an easy drive away and has shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants and its attractions include the Theatre by the Lake, boat trips on Derwentwater and the Cumberland Pencil Museum. Rookin House Farm Equestrian and Activity Centre in Troutbeck offers horse riding, archery, quad bikes and karting. Ullswater, south of the campsite, has numerous sandy beaches. Fishing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing are all available.
Toilet block is well equipped, with free hot showers and facilities for disabled visitors. Baby room. Laundry room with washing machines. Motorcaravan services. Small play area for children. Designated dog walk. Small shop selling local free-range eggs, meat and real ales. Coffee machine. Holiday homes and lodges. WiFi (variable reception; charged).
