Alan Rogers Review
Coming to this site after three weeks in Russia, and having crossed the border into Estonia at Narva only 30 minutes earlier, we thought it must be a mirage – a clean, level, green field right beside the coast, fenced and secure with clean toilets, hot showers and water! Having quickly settled in, we realised it was not a mirage and set about enjoying all this quiet site has to offer. There are 22 touring pitches all with electricity. Although the site is next to the coast there are some 120 steps down to the beach. Despite that, it is an excellent site in a beautiful location.
Toila, along a former trade route of the Vikings, is famous for its gardens. Here stood the majestic Oru Castle, built by the famous Saint Petersburg businessman Yelisseyev in the 19th century. Having been used as the Estonian President’s summer residence between the wars, it was subsequently destroyed. Now the village is home to parts of the parkland that has been reconstructed and the views of the Baltic Glint are quite spectacular. Here the Glint forms part of the Saka-Ontika-Toila landscape reserve.
Small sanitary block has clean toilets and hot showers. Adjoining hotel provides a bar, restaurant and indoor swimming pool, complete with sauna. In addition the spa complex offers a variety of treatments that are all available to campers. Chemical toilet disposal point. English spoken in reception. Internet access in the hotel. WiFi. Cottage accommodation.

The village of Toila is 12 km. northeast of Johvi which is on route 1, the Narva-Tallinn highway. Turn north towards Toila and just as you enter the village a sign indicates a left turn towards the Toila Sanatoorium (Spa Hotel). Having turned left, drive 800 m. and just before the hotel car park turn right, then left and left again. Site is ahead on the right.
