Alan Rogers Review of Thornton’s Holt Camping and Caravanning Club
Thornton’s Holt is an attractively laid out, great family camping park at Stragglethorpe - a scattered rural hamlet 3.5 miles southeast of the city of Nottingham. The 155 spacious pitches are arranged in four separate areas, including one with an orchard setting. With a mixture of grass and gravel hardstanding, most have access to 10A electricity. The owners encourage a friendly farming atmosphere with free range chickens, ducks and guinea fowl wandering around the park. You may also encounter Spike and Spartacus, the resident horses, as well as dogs and a cat. Amenities include a heated indoor swimming pool (charged) and a large play area for children. This is a family run park where there is a warm welcome.
The park is nicely maintained with shrubs and flowers planted all over the park. In springtime, bulbs are much in evidence. The site is hedged by trees which give shade in some areas, and there are views over the surrounding countryside. Public House and carvery adjacent. In 2021 a new amenity building will house reception, shop, café and takeaway. Some pitches occupied by seasonal units.
