Tavistock Camping & Caravanning Club Site
England, South West, Devon, Tavistock
Alan Rogers Review
Tavistock Camping and Caravanning Club site is situated within the Dartmoor National Park boundaries with fabulous views up to the higher slopes of the moor. A neat, sheltered field provides 40 level pitches with hardstanding arranged on each side of a circular access road. A smaller terraced touring area and extra grass pitches are provided in the camping field along with an area of hardstanding for motorhomes in poor weather. In total there are 75 pitches (some serviced), 60 with electricity connections. Tavistock, two and a half miles from the site, has world heritage status. It is a picturesque and ancient market town with the beautiful River Tavy running through its centre. Whether you enjoy lovely cafes, shopping, grand architecture or historical abbey ruins, it is well worth a visit.
Non-members are welcome and may join on site. Please speak to site staff for details and to check pitch availability before arrival.
This pretty site is an ideal centre for touring Dartmoor, either by car, on foot, or astride a local pony (riding stables nearby). Plymouth and the cross-channel ferries are a 30 minute drive. Leave your car on site and venture out to explore Dartmoor’s sweeping hills and wooded valleys. The National Cycle Route number 274 (coast to coast Ilfracombe to Plymouth) passes 200 yards from the site. A good place to start your visit to Dartmoor is the National Park Visitor Centre at Princetown, east of Tavistock site. Displays and exhibitions give a wonderful insight into the history, culture and wildlife of the area. Princetown also offers excellent access to the north and south moors for hill walkers. 4 holiday cottages and 4 safari tents available to hire.
A single heated toilet block provides excellent full en-suite facilities plus extra toilets and washbasins. Facilities for visitors who are disabled. Family bathroom and baby changing. Full laundry facilities. Dish washing area. Motorhome services. Ice block service. Reception stocks some basic essentials. Gas sales. Large recreation field. Nature area. Adventure trail for children and walks. Pets welcome. Dog walks. Wi-Fi free. Caravan & motorhome storage. Bus stop adjacent.
From the north, on the A386 at the edge of Tavistock turn left onto B3357. The site is clearly signed from the B3357 Princetown road, 2 miles from Tavistock. Follow brown camping signs for Higher Longford. Do not use sat nav due to very narrow local lanes. From the south, on the A386 join the B3357 at Tavistock. Then as above.Link to campsite location map on google
