Alan Rogers Review

An attractive, well maintained holiday park, Sun Haven Valley is on the edge of a small valley with views of the opposite hills. Owned and thoughtfully run by the Tavener family, it caters mainly for couples and families with children whose parents are said ‘to play with their children’. On a gently sloping hillside, 37 caravan holiday homes to rent border the top field with a central area of neatly cut grass left free for play. The lower field is edged by a small trout stream (unfenced) and provides 109 level, grass touring pitches, 96 with 10A electricity and eight with hardstanding, marked by tram lines and accessed by a circular road.

In peak season, extra pitches are provided in the field on the other side of the road. The facilities and play area are situated between the two fields and some up-and-down walking is required. A footpath involves a 15-20 minute walk to reach the beach and the small village of Mawgan Porth, which was buzzing with surfers and families out to enjoy the beach when we visited. There are eating places within walking distance and an organic farm with a shop next door – apparently Tesco and Asda will deliver to the site! An unusual recycling activity whereby any left behind body boards, chairs, tables and toys can be borrowed by other campers seems to be much appreciated. The family constantly seek ways to improve the site by listening to their guests’ suggestions. Local bus services pass through the village.

Large, central and fully equipped toilet block, with a smaller one in the far corner. Two en-suite family rooms double as facilities for disabled visitors. Laundry. Fridge and freezer. Microwave, toaster and oven. Basic foodstuffs available in reception (some supermarkets will deliver to site). Takeaway food (Aug). Play area. TV room. Games room with computers and amusement machines. Bicycle hire arranged. Tourist information centre. WiFi around reception (charged). Mobile phone reception poor. Max. 1 dog in high season. Mobile homes and chalets to rent.
