Alan Rogers Review
This seaside park is located on 20 acres of undulating grass on a sandy base, with natural protection from the coastal breezes of the famous Strandhill beach. The megalithic tombs at Carrowmore, older than the Pyramids at Giza, are 5 km. away and the flat beach at Culleenmore is 2 km. Strandhill provides an excellent touring base for the Benbulban, Yeats’ Country and Lough Gill’s Isle of Innisfree, combining nature, heritage, and fable.
There are 55 hardstanding pitches for caravans and motorhomes, with electricity and ample water points, and two camping areas for tents, one with views of the sea and the second more sheltered. Throughout the site, many hollows provide ideal pitches for tents. Strandhill, world-renowned as a surfing hotspot, also offers activities for all the family. There are miles of sandy beaches and dunes, and Knocknarea Mountain is popular for walkers. The epic views from the summit are a suitable reward.
The toilet block (keys provided on deposit) is clean and fresh with hot showers (token €1.50), electric hand dryers and hairdryer. Reception building, including a TV room, games room, campers’ kitchen, laundry and a well-equipped facility for disabled visitors. WiFi over part of the site (charged). Automatic gate and door control.
Strandhill is 8 km. west of Sligo city on the R292. Site is on the airport road.
