Alan Rogers Review
A family owned, rural retreat of 25 acres, Smytham Manor is hidden away in its own valley some ten miles south of Bideford and 18 miles north of Okehampton. Part landscaped with neat grass and magnificent trees, the house is to one side of the valley with some privately owned mobile homes and more to the other side with pretty gardens. Tents have space in the walled garden where the swimming pool is situated and caravans go on terraced grass opposite. There is room for 45 units, of which 44 have 16A electricity connections. Some pitches have gravel hardstanding.
Lower down, the valley becomes more natural and wooded, with a series of lakes and a path leading down to the Tarka trail which can be explored on foot or by bike. Three smart, wooden chalets are available to let and another houses the bar and reception.
Facilities
Very smart, heated toilet block with every modern facility, including provision for disabled visitors which double as a baby room. Bar with terrace overlooking the valley (open evenings, weekends only low season). Milk, bread and daily essentials at reception. Swimming pool (solar heated May-Sept). Adventure playground. Games room. Walks from site. WiFi over site (charged).
Location
From Bideford follow A386 Okehampton road through Great Torrington. Turn right to park after 2 miles. From A30 pick up A386 south of Okehampton and go north for 18 miles towards Great Torrington.
