Alan Rogers Review

Les Pastourels is a very spacious site enjoying an excellent location at the heart of the Périgord Noir, with views stretching across towards the Château de Milandes. The region’s capital, Sarlat, can be reached in around 15 minutes. There are just 48 very large touring pitches (and 12 mobile homes) here, all with 6A electricity and six are fully serviced. Some pitches are laid out informally in woodland and others are on grass, separated by hedges. Much of the estate is covered by forest (with the characteristic walnut trees found in this area) and pasture. A number of footpaths converge at the site, including the long-distance GR64.

On-site amenities include a swimming pool and a convivial shop/snack bar (with fresh bread baked daily). Milandes is one of the region’s finest châteaux and is just 1.5 km. away. The château dates back to the 15th century and has a fascinating history. However, its most famous owner was surely the American cabaret singer, Josephine Baker, who established a home for 12 disadvantaged children there in 1955.

The modern toilet block includes facilities for babies and disabled visitors. Small shop for basics. Snack bar/pizzeria and takeaway (mid June-mid Sept). Outdoor swimming pool and paddling pool (heated 13/5-15/9). Playground. Large sports/play area. Bicycle hire. Organised family activities in July/Aug. WiFi.
