Alan Rogers Review
A peaceful haven in Thomas Hardy country, Sandyholme provides 55 holiday homes (privately owned or for hire) and 50 numbered pitches for touring units (with 10A electricity) on level, short grass fields with one corner lightly wooded. The next door field is operated by the local farmer on a 28 day licence and can be used for tents or rallies. An unusual feature is a rather special duck pond with an amazing variety of ducks from all over the world with a pleasant walk and seats around the edge (an electric fence keeps the foxes at bay).
There are walks and cycle routes direct from the site or in Puddletown and Wareham Forests, or along the coastal path. Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Weymouth, with its sandy beach, Monkey World and The Tank Museum, are all within easy reach.
A modern, fully equipped, heated toilet block includes some washbasins in cubicles. En-suite facilities for disabled visitors doubles as a family room with baby changing facilities. Laundry room. Shop/reception stocks all basic necessities including papers and gas. Fenced adventure play area. Games room with pool table and amusement machines. WiFi throughout (charged).
LocationOn A352 Dorchester-Wareham road going west, watch for short dual carriageway section before Weymouth-Osmington roundabout. Turn north through Owermoigne village and park is on the left (clearly signed) after 400 yds. Link to campsite location map on google
