Alan Rogers Review

Salthill Caravan Park was first opened in 1960, and has been run by the O’Malley family ever since. The park comprises five acres of mobile homes and a three-acre campsite, near the water’s edge. The park has superb views over Galway Bay, and has access to a shingle beach, just 100 m. distant. The 49 touring pitches are grassy and open, all with 10A electrical connections and 35 hardstanding. Adjacent to the site, there is a pleasant coastal pathway which leads to Galway City and sandy beaches (800 m). Off site, there is a friendly pub (200 m) and a large, well stocked supermarket (600 m).

Salthill beach is actually several sandy Blue Flag beaches separated by rocky outcrops. Windsurfing, kayaking and paddle boarding are all popular, and courses are available nearby. The Galway Atlantiquaria is Ireland’s premier aquarium, and boasts more than 170 species of fresh water and marine life. Galway City is renowned for its important Arts festival in July, when the city welcomes over 100,000 visitors for a varied programme of visual art, music, theatre and dance.

Facilities

One (unheated) toilet block in the middle of the touring pitches also contains a washing machine and dryer (€ 5 each), sinks (hot water charged). Showers by reception (on payment). No facilities for disabled visitors. Limited grocery items in reception. New children’s playground. Games room. WiFi throughout (free).
