Alan Rogers Review
This delightful and sheltered park is set a mile back from the pretty seaside village of Porthtowan, a haven for surfers but enjoyed by families who can explore the rock pools and coves. The local beach has Blue Flag status. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, tall chimney stacks, stark against the sky, remain a reminder of the tin mining for which this area of Cornwall was once renowned. This is now a peaceful spot with plenty of space on the park and tall trees surrounding the three camping fields. There are 80 pitches around the edge of the fields on level grass, all with 10 amp electricity.
This site is owned and managed by Andrew McKenzie & family and is maintained to a very high standard. The park is open plan, attractively laid out and all pitches are level. The reception area also serves as a very well stocked shop and is part of the central facilities block. The facilities block is exactly what you would expect of a ‘5’ Star site - very clean, with all equipment modern and in good working order. There is an excellent adventure play area that has recently been updated with a soft ball pitch at the side and there is also a very well equipped games room. Excellent location with the Coast to Coast trail which passes within half a mile of the site and the Newquay-Saint Ives bus stops at the site entrance.
Facilities
Modern fully equipped toilet block with one en-suite family room and one accessible sanitary facility. Washing machine and dryer. Shop in reception. Games room with tourist information. Separate and secure dog walking area. Adventure type play area. Wetsuit rinse area. Pizza van calls once a week (variable day) during high season. Wi-Fi, good, throughout (charged). Very pro-active recycling policy. CCTV across site. Electric security barriers 24/7.
Location
From the A30 take exit for Redruth, Porthtowan and Portreath and follow signs for Porthtowan for 2 miles. At T-junction turn right and the park is half a mile on the left.
