Alan Rogers Review

On a coastal route, this extremely popular site is in a very scenic location, has a magnificent backdrop and is close to the largest Maelstrom in the world. It is an easy short walk to this outstanding phenomenon. As well as 20 cabins, the site has 80 simple touring pitches, mostly on level, gravel hardstandings, with water, waste water and electricity (10A). Twenty ‘softer’ pitches are available for tents. The nearby fjord is renowned for the prolific numbers of coalfish and cod caught from the shore. Many try their hand at catching the evening meal. You are advised to arrive by late afternoon.

At the Maelstrom, in the course of six hours between 33,800 and 82,700 billion gallons of water are pressed through a narrow strait at a rate of about 20 knots. The effect is greatest at new or full moons. Tide tables to find the optimum time to visit are available in reception.

Excellent heated sanitary facilities are clean and fully equipped. Unisex with four large individual cubicles containing a WC, shower and washbasin. Other cubicles have a toilet and washbasin and one family room provides both adult and child size WC, washbasin and shower. Full wet room with access for disabled visitors. Motorcaravan services. Kitchen with two full cookers. Fish cleaning area and free use of fish freezer. Laundry facilities. Playground. Minigolf. Fishing. WiFi (free).
