Alan Rogers Review
On the outskirts of the thriving inland ‘resort village’ of Woodhall Spa, Petwood is a newly-built, well maintained park in the heart of ‘Bomber’ County. A few of Lincolnshire’s many Second World War airfields are now Aviation Heritage sites and RAF Coningsby is home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight; the Dambusters’ pub is just down the road. There are 98 spacious, level pitches with electricity connections (16A) and water taps. They are divided into distinct areas by young shrubs and trees and include 67 grass touring pitches and eight gravel hardstandings with grass verges; the remainder are occupied by seasonal units.
The nearby Jubilee Park has an indoor heated swimming pool, playground, bowling green, croquet lawn, tennis courts and a café. The village is just a short walk away and offers an excellent range of specialist shops, including a wonderful bakery and delicatessen, a couple of good butchers, various tea rooms and a pub serving meals and snacks. The Kinema in the Woods is an historic picture house showing classic films alongside the latest releases; the Compton Organ adds a nostalgic touch to some presentations. At nearby Tattershall is a unique 15th-century red-brick castle, a National Trust property which is well worth a visit. Days out could include historic Lincoln with its quaint streets, its impressive cathedral and its newly-restored castle, home to a copy of the Magna Carta, or, in complete contrast, Lincolnshire’s popular seaside resort of Skegness.
Woodhall Spa is southeast of Lincoln. From A15 (Lincoln-Sleaford) at Metheringham Heath turn east on B1189 to Metheringham and in 3.7 miles turn left east on B1191 to Woodhall Spa. At mini-roundabout in village turn north on B1190 (Bardney). Jubilee Park is on the left in 0.3 miles and site is signed. NB Petwood is the first of two sites behind the park.
