Alan Rogers Review

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Penhale is a traditional campsite on four and a half acres of rolling farmland, with magnificent views across the countryside to Saint Austell Bay. The Berryman family run an arable and beef farm alongside the campsite. The atmosphere here is relaxed and there is plenty of room in the touring fields. The fields do slope, but a number of pitches have been levelled. In total, there are 56 pitches for all types of units, 41 with 16A electricity hook-ups. Ten holiday caravans occupy a separate field. It is possible to walk to Polkerris beach a mile away, and Fowey is just a mile and a half.

The attractive, busy town of Fowey with its narrow streets is on the river of the same name and is a sailors’ paradise (Regatta week is late August). Daphne du Maurier’s association with the town is celebrated at the Literary Centre and with an annual Arts Festival in May. This is the landscape of the wooded valleys, hidden coves and sandy beaches that inspired her books. There are many lovely walks and the site has produced directions. There are no public footpaths direct from the site but permission has been given to access the footpaths across private property.

One fully equipped toilet block at the bottom of the touring fields. Laundry room. Games room. Reception at the farmhouse stocks basics. WiFi.
