Alan Rogers Review
Owned by The Camping and Caravanning Club, this site at Barcaldine, 12 miles north of Oban, is a small, intimate site taking 75 units. Arranged within the old walled garden of Barcaldine House, it has some protection from the wind and make it quite a sun trap. There are 23 level, fairly small pitches with hardstanding and 52 electrical hook-ups (16A). It can be wet underfoot in bad weather. Being a small site, it has a very cosy feel to it, due no doubt to the friendly welcome given to new arrivals. There is a new entrance barrier (code access).
The loch across the road is handy for sea fishing and a 20 minute walk takes you to a freshwater lake for fishing. Through the garden gate, one is immediately in the Barcaldine forest with its miles of forest tracks, absolutely perfect for both dog walking and mountain biking.
The excellent new central toilet block can be heated and is kept very clean with free hot showers, hairdryers and plenty of washbasins, some in cubicles, and WCs. Two excellent units for disabled visitors (one doubles as a family room) with ramped access. Laundry. Motorcaravan services. Small shop open a few hours each day for basic provisions and gas. Small play area with effective safety base. WiFi over site (charged).
