Alan Rogers Review

Lydford Caravan and Camping Park, a Caravan Club affiliated site, is known by its regular visitors for its sense of peace, beauty and tranquillity. It offers a host of stunning views of the nearby Dartmoor Tors and is set in three main areas divided by attractive hedgerows and trees. There is a choice of 80 level and gently sloping touring pitches, either hardstanding or grassy, most with 16A electricity. Within easy reach from the site is Lydford village, once a tinners’ stannary town and steeped in rich local history. Amongst its many attractions are a charming Norman castle and an ancient church, which boasts original ninth-century connections. No arrivals accepted before 12 noon.

Most famous perhaps is Lydford Gorge, the deepest gorge in the south of England, stretching from the ominously named Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool to the dramatic White Lady Waterfall, making for an exciting 3.5 mile circular walk. There are limitless additional walks and cycling routes close to the site, as well as some lovely National Trust properties to explore. This is an ideal location for walking and sightseeing on the moors, especially Two Bridges, Postbridge, Dartmeet, Badgers Holt, Widecombe-on-the-Moor, and Princetown with its prison and museum.
