Alan Rogers Review

In a stunning location, this site is a popular resting place on the long trek to Nordkapp and is only 18 km. from the Arctic Circle and its visitor centre. There are 50 unmarked touring pitches set amongst birch trees with electricity connections (10A) for 28 units, and 15 cabins available to rent. In late spring and early summer, the river alongside, headed by rapids, is impressive and there remains the possibility of the surrounding mountains being snow capped. A reception kiosk is open 08.00-10.00 and 15.00-22.00 in high season, otherwise campers are invited to find a pitch and pay later at the hotel complex opposite.

This should not be considered merely a convenient stopover en route to Lofoten or Nordkapp. There are walks from the site with caves and glaciers to visit within a comfortable drive. The site owners will give advice on the walking and touring opportunities. For the adventurous, a two-hour guided tour of Setergrotte Cave is 30 km. away. Svartisen - Austerdalsisen, also 30 km. away, is the second largest glacier in Norway. For those interested in WW2 history there is the neatly tended grave of a Russian soldier by the site gate.
