Alan Rogers Review
Forest Glade, immaculately managed and owned and run by the Wellard family, is set in a forest clearing on the Blackdown Hills (designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), deep in mid Devon away from the hectic life on the coast. A sheltered site set amongst woodland with extensive walking opportunities, there are 80 level touring pitches, 62 of which have 10 amp electricity connections, 2 with full services and 39 with hardstanding. Touring caravans and large motorhomes must book in advance, when the easiest route will be advised (phone bookings accepted). Although set in the countryside, the beaches of East Devon are a fairly easy drive away.
There is a small, heated, covered pool with a paddling pool, sauna and patio area outside, and a large games room (up a flight of steps, so not suitable for visitors with disabilities). There is also a soft play area for children. The surrounding 300 acres of forest makes this a nature and dog-lovers’ paradise (dogs are accepted). The owners have also developed a nature trail and wildlife pond.
Facilities
There is one main toilet block, heated in cold weather, with some washbasins in cubicles. Family shower room. Separate accessible suite. Laundry with washing machines and dryers. Facilities for babies. Extra prefabricated unit with toilets, washbasins and showers at the swimming pool. Well stocked shop includes gas and a takeaway (evenings except Sun). Microwave in campers’ kitchen. Heated swimming pool (free). Sauna (on payment). Extensive adventure play area with access to woodland. Games room. All-weather tennis court. Wi-Fi over site (charged). Caravan storage. Wildlife information room.
