Alan Rogers Review

Sandra and Cyril are proud of their campsite on the edge of the Petite Camargue region, a unique area of France. It can be hot here, the Mistral can blow and you may have some road noise, but the situation between Nîmes and Arles is ideal for exploring the Camargue and visiting towns such as Aigues Mortes. There are 71 pitches with 46 for touring units on level grass (10A electricity), nine mobile homes/bungalow tents to rent and a further 16 privately owned. Originally a vineyard on stony ground (strong pegs needed), some of the vines are now used to mark the pitches, although many other varieties of trees and shrubs have been planted.

Many other varieties of trees and shrubs have been planted, including tamaris, eucalyptus, olives (they produce their own oil) and myrtle plain and this creates quite a unique environment for this area. The reception building and toilet blocks are also unusual, looking rather like air raid shelters, but they are effective in the climate. The central pool is welcome and the ‘al fresco’ bar with a happy hour and a barbecue one evening each week is the focal point. The site is part of a local group who promote all the natural and cultural aspects of the Petite Camargue. You can visit the vineyards in a horse drawn ‘caleche’ or take guided horse or cycle rides to explore the countryside. A new addition is two donkeys which became three when the foal was born. They are being trained to give rides.

Two small toilet blocks provide for all needs. Facilities for disabled visitors. Washing machine. Motorcaravan services (charged). Chips and panini to takeaway (high season). Breakfast served. Reception keeps essentials and bottled water. Bread to order (evening before). Play area. Games for children once a week (July/Aug). Internet access and WiFi (charged). Communal barbecue but gas or electric ones are allowed. Mobile homes and tents to rent.
