Alan Rogers Review

La Vallée Verte is a very well tended, peaceful site at the edge of the village of St Nectaire, famous for its cheese of the same name. The 91 pitches are thoughtfully laid out with 74 for touring and 17 mobile homes and chalets. All pitches are separated by neatly trimmed hedges and mature trees offering shade if preferred. The pitches are generally flat and level, with some on more sloping ground reserved for tent campers. Most pitches have 8A electricity (Europlugs) and water is not far from any of them. There is an excellent heated, covered swimming pool with access for wheelchair users and a hoist.

It is only a 400 m. walk from the site to the first shops and the old spa town of St Nectaire but it is well worth walking further to the upper part of the town with its impressive 12th-century Roman church. In July and August there are daily activities in the town if you want a change from the peace and quiet on the campsite. At an altitude of 700 m, at the heart of the Massif du Sancy and the Parc des Volcans D'Auvergne, this is a superb area for exploring by foot, bike or car. A visit in May or June will be rewarded by fields of wild flowers and in September by the beautiful autumn colours.
